There are loads of ways to hack your bar order to make happy hour healthier—and fitness phenom Anna Kaiser knows it.
The celebrity trainer (Kaiser’s credited for kicking the famous booties of Shakira and Kelly Ripa, among many others) and founder of dance cardio studio AKT in Motion is all about post-work cocktails, but she’s not about to whip up a sugar bomb just to satisfy a boozy craving. Instead, her go-to order is simple: tequila soda with a lime, please.
“You’re going to sip it—it’s going to be something fun to have at a party, not something you’re just going to down.”
“Most alcohol is a depressant, and tequila is an upper,” Kaiser says. “So it gives you energy, plus you’re not adding any sugar to your drink.” Then she tops it off with a lime to add some flavor.
This easy drink also functions as a good way to ensure that “just one glass of rosé” doesn’t quickly turn into throwing back an entire bottle. “It’s not sugary like wine, so you’re not going to end up drinking three glasses,” Kaiser says. “Instead, you’re going to sip it—it’s going to be something fun to have at a party, not something you’re just going to down.” (The dancing queen’s favorite tequila is Casamigos, should you want to be #twinsies.)
Just uh, keep it in moderation should you be planning to hit a 7 a.m. Sweat Dream class. (Though your instructor can’t really tell when you’re sweating out tequila—right?)
