Unpacking my new kettle, I just kept thinking, “Wow, this is really pretty.” If I could pick one word to describe this sleek vessel, it would be “chic.” (Just like I would for its cousin, the ridiculously elegant Balmuda Toaster ($329).)  The kettle’s body is made from a powder coated stainless steel that’s a minimalist’s dream, thanks to its neutral coloring (solid black or white), clean silhouette, and simple design.

Each Balmuda kettle comes with three parts: the kettle itself, a lid, and a power base that plugs into a standard outlet. Everything is the same color, immediately giving it an elegant, cohesive look on your counter top or bar space. But the kettle itself doubles as a work of art: between its lightweight feel, swooping neck, and delicate, glowing lantern feature on the end of the handle, you won’t mind leaving this out for company to see.

Fast and functional

Looks aside, this kettle is a game-changer for eager coffee lovers like myself. Whatever you want—coffee, tea, a bag of ramen noodles—can be made in three minutes flat. All you have to do is fill the vessel up with water (it holds 20 fluid ounces, aka, three standard cups of coffee), plug in the power base, and put on the kettle. Don’t go too far, though, because it only takes 2-3 minutes to start to boil. Since it’s smaller than regular kettles, water boils faster, which is great for fellow caffeine lovers who want their drinks ASAP.

Once it’s boiling, remove it from the base and pour. Its gooseneck was actually designed to perfect its flow rate, giving you total control over how fast water comes out and where it goes.
