Just a peek at actress and Real Girl’s Kitchen chef Haylie Duff’s Instagram shows that she is one foodie who doesn’t care much for a sugar high. (She does, however, seem to be a connoisseur of chicken wings and fish tacos—totally relatable, TBH.)
But one of her newest kitchen staples takes her repertoire in a sweet new direction: a cherry-chocolate protein smoothie that could easily double as dessert.
According to Duff, an ambassador for Burt’s Bees’ new line of plant-based, organic protein powders, she fell for the recipe even though she wasn’t its target audience. “I love green smoothies, but I wanted to make one that my fiancé would drink,” she explains. “I added cherries and blackberries, and I snuck in chia seeds because I knew he wouldn’t see them.” Hey, anything for omega-3s.
Not only is this smoothie a chocoholic’s post-workout dream, but its antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory ingredients are also seriously glow-enhancing—just ask Duff. “I think the most important thing [in beauty] is putting good stuff in,” she says. “You’ll see the results on the outside.” A cherry on top, if ever there was one.
