The giant pits in avocados aren’t too much of a hassle—but if you think about it, they do take up some prime real estate inside your staple brunch ingredient. In fact, the pit probably accounts for just enough could-be avo meat to allow for an extra slice of toast. Alas, that’s now a problem of the past: There’s an actual pitless version—and you can even eat the skin. And no, you’re not dreaming.
The fruits are pitless due to an unpollinated avocado blossom—and although they’re only a few inches long and more so resemble cucumbers, the taste is reportedly similar to the ooey, gooey, creamy goodness you know and almost certainly love.
According to Delish, the surprisingly not-too-good-to-be-true variety of everyone’s favorite fruit hails from Spain. Called “cocktail avocados,” they get their pitless anatomy due to an unpollinated avocado blossom—and although they’re only a few inches long and more so resemble cucumbers than avocados, the taste is reportedly similar to the ooey, gooey, creamy goodness you know and almost certainly love.
Also, about the whole edible-skin thing: Although it might not be an enticing thought, keep in mind that the entire waste-free avocado can be sliced up and added straight to your dish—no fuss or meal prep required. Or you can probably just bite right into it like an apple, if you dare.
Right now they’re available at the Marks & Spencer stores in the UK through December—but here’s to hoping the avos make their way across the pond soon. And, if Marks & Spencer extends the inventory, consider it an added reason to plan your trip to catch the May 2018 royal wedding.
