You’ve got a lot of options when it comes to vegan meats and dairy products on the market, but finding good vegan egg substitutes is a little trickier. Over the past couple years, though, some solid options have arrived on the shelves at your local grocery store. And aside from the impressively realistic taste and texture, these vegan egg substitutes also hold up in terms of protein content.
While a typical egg contains 6 grams of protein, some of the best egg-like alternatives have up to 10 grams per “egg.” Yes, seriously. Aside from using them in baked goods, you can also scramble them, use them to make omelets, add them to breakfast sandwiches, and beyond. Before you add one to your cart, these are the best options to try, ranked by their protein content.
The best high-protein vegan egg substitutes, ranked
1. Shop now: The Vegg Power Scramble, $13
When it comes to protein, this vegan egg substitute wins by a landslide. A four tablespoon serving of the product (which they say equals two eggs) comes in at 20 grams. This product in particular works great for fluffy scrambles that mimic the texture and taste of real eggs. You simply whisk together the mixture and water, then pour it into a pan. The company also has a vegan egg yolk product that allows you to recreate dishes like eggs Benedict, or simply add a runny yolk atop your avocado toast.

2. Shop now: JUST Egg Folded, $5
Protein: 7 grams per serving
Nutrition (per folded egg): 100 calories, 7 grams fat, 300 mg sodium, 0 grams sugar
Out of all the vegan egg options I’ve tried, nothing has ever come close to Just products. The new folded version allows you to make the perfect fast food-style breakfast sandwich—something that’s become a weekend tradition in my house. It’s so fluffy (think McDonald’s sandwich-style!) and can be made as easily as putting it in the toaster. Pro tip: It comes out much better when you pop it in the microwave for 30 to 45 seconds, flip, then repeat.
3. Shop now: JUST Egg, $8
Protein: 5 grams per serving
Nutrition (per 3 tbsp serving): 70 calories, 5 grams fat, 160 mg sodium, 0 grams sugar
While JUST’s folded version is great on sandwiches, there’s a lot of versatility in the liquid version. It’s perfect for baked goods, can quickly be turned into fluffy scrambled eggs so good they might just food your egg-loving friends, and makes stellar omelets. When you add a sprinkle of the super-eggy black salt—aka kala namak—you can hardly taste a difference.
4. Shop now: Follow Your Heart VeganEgg, $9
This is one of the OG vegan egg brands, and it’s come a long way since it was first launched. When you use it to replace eggs in your baked goods, it helps keep them fluffy and moist. You can also scramble them like eggs or create omelets. While the vegan egg doesn’t have much taste on its own, you can add black salt for a more egg-y flavor. Just note: Compared to Just Egg, for instance, this one is a lot more dense and the texture isn’t quite as egg-like.
Protein: 3 grams per serving
Nutrition (per 2 tbsp serving): 35 calories, 1 gram fat, 150 mg sodium, 1 gram sugar
5. Shop now: The Neat Egg, $5
If you solely want a vegan egg product to use as an egg replacer and binder in recipes, this is a good pick. You just need two tablespoons of water and one tablespoon of the mix to create one egg. With that being said, it doesn’t offer nearly as much protein per serving as the other options. You can’t scramble it up and eat it plain like other options, but it keeps everything from meatballs to brownies moist.
Protein: 2 grams per serving
Nutrition (per 1 tbsp serving): 25 calories, .5 grams fat, 0 mg sodium, 0 grams sugar
