This Comfortable Sequin Romper Is My Most Complimented Outfit—And It’s Back in Stock Just in Time For the Holidays
We all have certain garments and accessories that we hold on a pedestal not only because of how much we personally love them, but also due to the number of compliments they receive. For me, no garment in my closet earns me more compliments than the Free People Christa Sequin Romper ($168).
A little backstory: As much as I adore sequins, I’m generally one to steer clear of sequin-adorned bottoms, because let’s be real, there’s nothing quite as uncomfortable as chafing thighs compounded by stiff plastic or metal discs. That said, when I saw that the show-stopping pink Free People Christa Sequin Romper—which has over 3,000 likes on Free People's site—was on sale last summer for just $70, I simply couldn’t pass it up, especially because the retailer has hassle-free returns. I knew I’d be able to get my money back if it didn’t work out, and because I wanted something bold for my first trip to Nashville.
When the romper arrived, I was immediately impressed with the quality. While I expected it to be a heavy, somewhat stiff garment, this romper is so lightweight, not to mention fully lined in silky nude mesh, so it’s not itchy in the slightest. What’s more, is that it’s stretchy, so it doesn’t feel constricting, which is sometimes the big problem with rompers. Best of all, since it has a wrap-front closure—making it look like a mini dress from the front but a romper from the back—I’m able to hike up the shorts (without it being noticeable from the front or the back) to avoid any uncomfortable sequin-boosted chafing.
Suffice to say, this top-rated romper (which regularly sells out) is not only a guaranteed head-turner (seriously, men and women approached me all over Broadway about this sequined beauty!) but one of the most comfortable going-out outfits that I’ve ever owned. In addition to the thick thigh-friendly silhouette, the romper has billowing balloon sleeves, a deep V neckline, and an elastic waist, accompanied by a matching, detachable sequin belt. Truly, it’s the best.
The only thing I don’t love about this romper, which is sold in pink, as well as black and navy blue, is how delicate it is to wash (especially since this is a garment that I love to wear out on the town for hours on end, so it really needs a thorough rinsing by the end of the evening). It’s recommended for hand-washing only, but I’ve found that springing for dry cleaning works best.

Still, despite the more intricate washing instructions and the fact that it’s not currently on sale, I say it’s 100 percent worth splurging on. Even though I got mine on sale, I’m this close to buying the black one now, too, particularly because it’s the first time I’ve seen it in stock in months.
All this to say: If you’re still looking for the perfect holiday or New Year’s Eve ‘fit, the Free People Christa Sequin Romper is the perfect option. And if the color or size you’re looking for isn’t in stock at FP, know that it’s in stock at other retailers, too. And, if you’re unsure which size you should get, know this: I’m normally a size 12/14/XL and this romper fits perfectly in a size L. It definitely has wiggle room, so you may want to size down when ordering.
