1. Stranger Things
You may not think of this wildly popular series as a platform for girl bosses, but one Well+Good staffer begs to differ: “Eleven from Stranger Things is such a badass,” insists food and health editor Emily Laurence. “Even though life has thrown some insane stuff her way, she still keeps going. Plus, she’s a darn good friend.”

2. Moana
There’s a reason this animated film became the ultimate Disney hit. Moana is small, but so-very mighty. When she sets out on a mission to save her people, her journey is filled with crazy adventures, massive monsters, and seemingly impossible odds. But she powers through—and prevails. Bonus: The soundtrack is amazing (and likely to get stuck in your head for weeks).

3. Sex and the City
Over the course of six seasons, Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte went through it all. “I binge-watch SATC, preferably seasons one through three, when I need to make myself feel better in life,” says W+G associate beauty editor Rachel Lapidos. “It makes me feel better knowing that sometimes, women just need their BFFs to get through tough shit. Not to mention, they navigate every possible relationship scenario, which *always* helps me find answers to my tough questions.” And since the gals are so relatable, find out which one is your style twin.

4. Legally Blonde
Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon, but you knew that already) loses the man of her dreams, then gets into Harvard Law School to win him back. (“What, like it’s hard?”) In the end, Elle realizes she’s tougher, stronger, and smarter than anyone gave her credit for—including herself—and not only graduates the top of her class, but also wins a major case along the way. Yes, you’ve seen it a million times already. No, it never stops inspiring.

5. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
“I watched this entire series in record time,” admits W+G executive editor Erin Hanafy. “It was so addictive because main character Midge Maisel is so badass, but in a surprising way. Watching someone have a post-breakup breakdown in public is strangely inspiring—because through the pain, she finds her true purpose in life. Plus, she smacks down a lot of drunk hecklers in the process! This could be my new Rocky.”

6. 10 Things I Hate About You
This modern-day (well, 1999) take on William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew is so much more than a romantic comedy. Yes, Patrick (the late Heath Ledger) boldly serenading Kat (Julia Stiles) is wildly charming and yes, watching Bianca (Larisa Oleynik) unwittingly fall for her adorkable classmate Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is sweet, but ultimately this is a tale about Kat unapologetically being herself, even when it means being taunted and ridiculed by her classmates.

7. Glow
Between the awesome ’80s fashion, the insane female wrestling scenes, and the she-works-hard-for-the-money theme, this Netflix original series has fierce feminism coming from every corner of the ring. (Best to not try those moves at home, though.)

8. Younger
The publishing world can be competitive, cutthroat, and at times catty, and Younger brings it to life brilliantly. The show’s dialogue is sharp, witty, and at times LOL-inducing, but the message is moving: Liza (Sutton Foster), a 40-year-old divorcée and mother, isn’t perfect, but she’s restarting her life, and she’s doing it fearlessly. (Plus, it also stars Hilary Duff. You can’t go wrong with water-loving, body-positive Hilary Duff.)

9. The First Wives Club
Sometimes life is messy—and sometimes, as a result of that, you end up having a little (or a lot!) of fun. This classic film features a killer cast of leading ladies (ahem, Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton, and Maggie Smith) on a mission to get revenge on their two-timing exes. It’s fun, but it also gets to the heart of quality female friendships.
