What defines a good strapless bra?
Simply put, a great strapless bra is any bra that isn’t dancing around your torso after 15 minutes of wear. It should have a quality design (which is why most of the bras on our list cost a little more), and include supportive elements like underwire, silicone detailing, and an adjustable back clasp for a secure fit.
Of course, comfort and fit are high priorities as well. That said, it’s important to get the right cup size (or even a tad smaller) to help securely hold your breasts in and prevent the bra from sliding down. According to Utah-based bra fitting expert Courtney Killpack, you'll want to make sure that the gore (aka, that tiny part where the cups meet together) is sturdy, and that the bra’s brand is thick and fits firmly.
“Because you’re not wearing straps, you’re going to be relying on 100% of your strapless band to support you. You want it to be a comfortable snug,” says Killpack. Also, it pays to seek out bras with lots of hooks and eyes on the back. These help to give more support and stability where straps normally would.
Also worth noting: If you’re still having difficulty keeping the bra from sliding down and you don't need it to be completely strap-free, look for something that has convertible straps so you can try to adapt the bra to match your top. We'll mention below if each style comes with removable straps.

This best-selling strapless bra from Wacoal is great for keeping bigger busts lifted and comfortable thanks to padded underwire and full-coverage molded cups. There are also silicone strips along the cups and the band to keep the bra in place, as well as hidden stays to maintain the structure. And, in addition to offering full coverage, the size run includes plenty of options for larger cups.
Pros:
- Inclusive size run for larger bands and cups
- Padded underwire provides support without poking
- Soft, stretchy cups add support and comfort

If you have smaller boobs, it can be especially hard to keep a strapless bra in place. That's why this pick from Pepper, a brand designed for smaller-chested gals, is great: its cups are gradually padded to hug your boobs and eliminate gapping, so you don't need to worry about this bra bulging under your top.
Pros:
- Designed specifically for smaller boobs
- Gradual padding for a lift
- No gapping
Cons:
- Only one color option
- No convertible straps
Sizes: 30A-46H | Colors: 8 | Convertible straps: Yes
If you need a strapless bra that blends in with your skin tone, Skims has you covered. The brand has a whopping eight colors to choose from, so you can find your perfect version of this buttery-soft strapless bra. It also has a cushioned underwire and plenty of silicone along the band to keep you supported and secure.
Pros:
- Lots of skin-tone hues to choose from
- Cushioned underwire for comfort
- More affordable price point
Cons:
- May not be plunging enough for some necklines
Sizes: 32C-40G | Colors: 2 Convertible straps: Yes
This plunging, padded pick is perfect for lower-cut dresses (and giving the girls a lift!). The Self Assured Push Up bra from Wacoal is a fan favorite thanks to the stretchy, soft cups and silicone-lined band that holds up against slippage. Plus, it has a breathable mesh back and pretty floral lace framing in the front, so you'll look as good as you feel.
Pros:
- Plunging silhouette is great for low-cut tops and dresses
- Soft and stretchy padding for a lift
- Breathable mesh back helps keep you cool (and reduces sweaty slippage)
Cons:
- Only two colors
- No cup sizes below C
Sizes: 30D-40M | Colors: 2 | Convertible straps: Yes
“If you want to make your breasts look more narrow and not as wide and round, opt for a strapless that has seams in the cups,” says Killpack. “These will shape the breasts the best giving you a more narrow/slimmer look in the front.” And that’s exactly what stands out about this pick from Panache. Additionally, it has silicone lining and an underwire construction to keep your boobs lifted.
Pros:
- Lots of larger sizes available
- Seams help provide a slimming silhouette
- Silicone lining helps prevent slippage
Cons:
- Only two colors available
- No cup sizes below D
Sizes: 32B-40DD | Colors: 2 | Convertible straps: Yes
Just because it's low-profile doesn't mean it's not supportive. This Wacoal Halo Lace Strapless Underwire Bra is not only super comfy, but it also has silicone along the neckline to help secure the bra in place as you bust a move on the dance floor (or in your kitchen). Additionally, the adjustable straps give you the option to pair the bra with a halter or cross-back top, and the dainty lace material gives it an airy feeling.
Pros:
- Light and airy mesh material
- Lets your boobs take a more natural shape
- Silicone lining keeps you secure
Cons:
- Only two colors
- May not be supportive enough for larger busts
Sizes: XS-4X | Colors: 4 | Convertible straps: No
Looking for a comfortable bandeau? Look no further than Savage x Fenty, which makes a great, soft-yet-supportive strapless bralette. It's seamless, so it blends easily under your clothes (although watch that neckline with lower-cut tops), and has supportive cup lining (which isn't always the case with a bandeau).
Pros:
- Extensive size range
- Supportive cup lining (for a bandeau)
- Available in four neutral colors
- Seamless and smooth silhouette
Cons:
- Neckline may not work with all strapless outfits
- May not offer enough support for some activities (depending on your cup size)
