This 3-Ingredient, Magnesium-Packed Hazelnut Spread Is Back After Selling Out 4 Times Already
"I’ve discovered something incredible!” I yelled, as I ran from the kitchen to my roommate one day. Of course, she was excited, thinking that maybe I had unlocked the key to the stock market or found the Fountain of Youth. While neither of these scenarios accounted for my yelling, I did discover something incredibly good tasting and game-changing in the snack department: a vegan, chocolate hazelnut spread that's not only delicious, but good for you, too.
Meet Hella, the magnesium-packed (read: great for a bedtime snack) chocolatey delight that you're going to want to slather on just about everything. The first in-house product made by Bubble Goods, a marketplace of independent and organic food brands, Hella is made using just three simple ingredients: hazelnuts, coconut sugar, and cacao nibs. It's vegan, completely organic, and made without any preservatives or suspect ingredients you wouldn't want in your food. Most importantly, it's hella good, pardon the pun.
Dip pretzels or crackers in Hella for a salty-sweet treat, drizzle over smoothies and ice cream, pair with fruit, or eat it by the spoonful. There’s really no wrong way to enjoy. You can even add to a hot cup of your favorite milk for instant hot chocolate. Remember, it’s vegan too.
“Hella is the epitome of an old favorite made for the modern, health-conscious person who wants to actually taste the hazelnuts and cocoa, not sugar,” says Jessica Young, the founder and CEO of Bubble Goods. And she’s right. You really can taste the ingredients, but not in a way that tastes too earthy or is grainy. Hella spread's texture is still smooth like its sugary rivals, only you don’t have to worry about a potential sugar crash.

The three ingredients do a lot more than taste good, though. Alone, each ingredient is a nutritional powerhouse bound to go beyond just tickling your tastebuds. There's hazelnuts, which are a great source of magnesium, a nutrient in our bodies that promotes better sleep and relaxation. "Magnesium is a mineral that is part of many metabolic processes in the body," neuroscientist Tara Swart, MD, previously told Well+Good. "We need it just as much as we need all the essential vitamins and minerals." Hazelnuts are also a good source of fiber, which can help aid in digestive health.
Then, there's coconut sugar, which trumps traditional white sugar in terms of nutrition. It has a lower glycemic index, which means that it won’t cause the spike, or the sugar crash, in insulin that white sugar often does. Finally, there's the cacao nibs, another great source of magnesium for a restful night's sleep. As we previously learned from holistic nutritionist Rachelle Robinett, "nature's chocolate chips", as they're so often called, are also high in antioxidants, potassium, and iron, as well as healthy fats that boost energy. Talk about small but mighty...

So yes, the nutrients make me feel great about my afternoon (or morning, or night, or all of the above) snack, but the taste is still my favorite part. That day in the kitchen, I enjoyed dipping some pretzel sticks into my jar of Hella for some salty sweet action. Since then, I've drizzled it over a banana and topped with coconut flakes for breakfast, scooped it up with plantain chips, added it to a charcuterie board with fruit and served to guests, and even used it to make some easy homemade granola I could snack on all week. It's versatile and tasty enough to do just about anything with.
All in all, I standby that I really did discover something incredible in trying Hella. Whether you're an all-out Nutella fanatic or have been on the hunt for a replacement to your classic peanut butter, Hella is worth adding into your snacking rotation. Just do it fast, because this stash of spread won't stay on Bubble's virtual shelves for long. The creamy, plant-based goodness has sold out four times already, and is teeing up for a fifth. Snag a single jar or a pack of three and see why Hella is so hella good. (My advice: go ahead and order the pack of three.)
