When your feet ache, one of the best things you can do (aside from try to sit back and try to relax a bit—easier said than done, we know) is give them a massage. Giving your feet a good rubdown (whether you do this yourself, your partner does you a solid and does it for you, or you go to a spa) does have its benefits. In fact, it can help reduce tension, improve circulation, and, of most importantly, ease pain. But if you have nobody to enlist for the job, and outsourcing the task is not an option, you do have another option: You can get yourself a massager. Our favorite is the HoMedics Shiatsu Select Foot Massager, and we’ll tell you why in a second.

HoMedics Shiatsu Select Foot Massager — $36.00
Originally $49.99, now on sale for $35.99
Bring a little spa-like treatment home thanks to this foot massager. It’s designed to soothe tired feet through a combination of heat and kneading techniques.
Whether you’re up on your feet all day, or experiencing muscle fatigue from time to time, this device is here to help give your feet some much-needed rest and relaxation. It does this through the power of a shiatsu massage, which is a type of physical therapy that uses pressure to help offset tension and stress in your body.
Here’s how it works: Once you place your feet on the device, the rotating heads and 12 massage nodes knead into your soles and arches in a powerful and successive way. This helps to reduce tension and improve flexibility in your muscles. At the same time, it uses heat to comfort and relax your feet. (FYI: Heat increases blood circulation, which helps reduce discomfort and ease muscle tension.) As a bonus, there are two massage settings that you can easily adjust by tapping them with your toes.
Aside from the device’s sleek design, reviewers also noted its relaxing quality. “After a long hard day in the factory coming home to a VERY RELAXING foot massage is wonderful feels soooo good make me feel so much better fabric that covers the massage balls is so soft heat feels great,” they explained. “[It] doesn’t get overly hot which is best. Love this massager.”
Another five-star reviewer pointed out how they experienced seemingly quick relief from some of their foot pain. “I love that it quickly targets my aches,” they commented. “I work on my feet all day and this device fits right under my couch allowing me to slide it out from under whenever I need relief. The heat is enough but it’s more the the massaging that I care about.”
While this may not be a home run for all sources of aches and pains, this may be just what you need to take the edge off your tired feet. Editor’s note: If you’re experiencing severe pain, it may be a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider.
