Would You Swap Your Leggings for This Season’s Super-Comfy Fashion Trend?
After a few seasons on the fashion sidelines, track pants are about to step up their game—big time—this spring. “We're seeing a trend of clashing sport with high-end looks," says Pip Edwards, co-founder of the Aussie athleisure line P.E Nation. That's how she predicts the active bottoms will be appearing (and they will be appearing) over the coming months.
You've likely already seen chic pairs in surprising fabrics like velvet, silk, and satin, showing up on your social feeds. Now, however, prepare to see them everywhere...IRL. Part of their ubiquity is that they're just *so* comfy. But as easy as they are to wear, styling them can be tricky, especially when you dare to dress them up.
Here's how to pull off the effortless look of the track pant, even for the fanciest occasions.
The boyfriend jogger
The most casual and comfortable form of track pants is a loose-fitting jogger such as this relaxed pair from Year of Ours ($120). Just like boyfriend jeans, these look best with a form-fitting, more refined top (think: an off-the-shoulder, cinched-waist dress shirt). Add a simple pump for a more classic look or tuck yours into ankle boots to add edge.
The swaggy snap-offs
Remember how you used to feel so cool in those '90s-era tear-away pants? You will again with an updated pair like these from LPA ($148). Try tucking in a graphic tee, adding a cool cap, and going minimal with a small bag or clutch. Heeled ankle boots add a high-fashion touch, especially when you unbutton the bottom few snaps to expose your calves.
The transitional crop
Cropped pants, like these from P.E Nation ($220), are the perfect transition piece into warmer weather. Opt for a springy color or fun print, then slip on sexy sandals for a feminine twist. Don’t be afraid of a crop top under a cool bomber for an extra-sporty finish.
The track trouser
Stretchy waistband, relaxed fit, and dinner party-appropriate are phrases that usually don't end up in the same sentence—but with a fitted bodysuit and jeweled earrings, a baggy pair like these color-blocked ASOS gym pants ($45) look sleek and sexy. Top them off with an oversized blazer for a sophisticated touch.
