J.Lo and a-Rod Discover—Gasp!—Cutting Sugar and Carbs Is Hard
In a recent Instagram post, the duo asked their followers to join them in a 10-day health challenge. Not just any challenge, though—one that requires saying farewell to both carbs and sugar. And just 24 hours later, they've both admitted it's a little harder than they anticipated.
"It turns, out when you don't have sugar and you don't have carbs, you're really, really hungry all the time," Lopez says in an Instagram story. (Surprise, surprise.) "So we're trying to figure out a lot of good snacks." Those snacks include: sliced cucumbers, yellow peppers, red peppers, green beans, canned tuna (with mustard, onion, and celery), and tuna poke. Which don't seem that bad, to be fair.
While cutting back on certain foods can jumpstart a healthy eating plan, carbohydrates are good for you if you're smart about it and a little sugar is nothing to be afraid of.

To complete their health challenge, J.Lo and A-Rod have upped the amount of time they're spending in the gym. In the highly produced video above (which captures them driving around town in a Rolls-Royce), they sweat it out side-by-side on ellipticals, take on a muscle-blasting weight workout, and—obviously!—find some time for a dance break. While the goal for the challenge isn't entirely clear, their commitment to fitness as a couple is sure to create a little good-natured competitiveness—something to which everyone can relate.
Now, I can get down with busting out some J.Lo moves between reps, but the whole no-carb and no-sugar thing? I don't think I'd last more than a few hours. But clearly this #girlboss knows how to handle it.
Here's why we all need to rein in our fear of sugar. Or, find out why one registered dietitian will never cut carbs.
