Avoiding *This* Food on Your Wedding Day Will Banish Bloating, According to a Celebrity Nutritionist
To get Emmy Rossum ready for her big day, celeb nutritionist Kelly LeVeque had the Shameless star cut cheese, gluten, and white and empty carbs from her diet 10 days before "I do" and also had her drink plenty of fruit-free smoothies for nearly a month before, according to The Chalkboard. Now if you're thinking that fruit, nature's sugar, is the best part of a smoothie, you're not wrong. (And a lot of nutritious eaters probably agree with you.) The food group's items are delicious and great for your body—but just not right before you walk down the aisle.
"For breakfast on the big day, go for a fructose-free smoothie made of protein, fat, and fiber to balance blood sugar and turn down hunger hormones. Why fructose-free? Fructose feeds gut bacteria that can contribute to bloat." —Kelly LeVeque, celebrity nutritionist
"For breakfast on the big day, go for a fructose-free smoothie made of protein, fat, and fiber to balance blood sugar and turn down hunger hormones," LeVeque told The Chalkboard. "Why fructose-free? Fructose feeds gut bacteria that can contribute to bloat. Not to mention, fructose is metabolized in the liver, and if you plan to drink alcohol, it’s best to give your liver a break."
Another way to look your best on your wedding day is to add some chia or flax to your morning smoothie. "It helps ensure you have a bowel movement before you slip into your dress and slows the absorption of glucose to prevent a blood-sugar roller coaster," LeVeque said. Then, enjoy that tasty and nutrient-rich fruit platter in bed the following morning, when you wake up with post-nuptials bliss.
