A Stylist Says This Shampoo Plumps Strands From the Inside Out to Give You Healthier, More Voluminous Hair
There are many common reasons for thin or flat hair. For some, it’s simply genetics, but for others who are noticing increased hair loss, it could be from over-styling, stress, poor nutrition, or a number of other pesky culprits. Whatever the “root” cause of thin or thinning strands may be, volumizing products that strengthen strands can help—particularly the stylist-approved Kérastase Densifique Bain Densité ($30), a plumping shampoo that works from the inside out, leaving hair healthier and more voluminous.
Available in three sizes: 80 ml ($20), 250 ml ($36) and 500 ml ($60).
When we think of things on our bodies that can voluntarily “plump up” with the help of a serum or secret elixir, lips and skin are first to come to mind. But our hair? Apparently, yes. Amanda Manyvanh, a New York-based hair stylist who’s a big fan of the thickening shampoo, says its plumping power lies in its ingredient list, which includes hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and gluco-peptide. If those sound familiar, it’s because they’re commonly use in buzzy skin care products—and Manyvanh says they work on hair, too.
“I like to think of treating our hair and scalp like how we treat our skin,” she says. She explains that hyaluronic acid—which is known for being a heavenly hydrator—helps cleanse your follicles and promotes growth by attaining moisture, while ceramides add shine and an extra layer of protection. As for gluco-peptides, “they will be the active ingredient that will swell each individual hair follicle to create body and fullness,” says Manyvanh. “Peptides will help keep the existing hair healthy and strong.” The shampoo also contains Intra-Cylane, a proprietary molecule that soaks into the strands, resulting in the appearance of thicker hair. There’s also salicylic acid which helps tackle buildup on the scalp from oils and other products.

Manyvanh says she often recommends this product to her clients and has used the product herself for va-va-voom volume. “I love how versatile and lightweight this shampoo is... It’s targeted specifically towards clients with thinning hair, but it’s also good for anyone that is looking to add volume and the overall appearance of fuller hair,” she says.
With all this in mind, a bottle of Kérastase Densifique Bain Densité shampoo might be worth a spot in your shower. If you really want to turn up your hair’s volume, add the rest of the Densifique line to your cart, too. There’s the Kérastase Fondant Densité Conditioner ($44), which detangles hair without taking away texture, and the Masque Densité ($64), a thickening conditioning treatment when your tendrils really need some TLC.
However, using the right hair products is just one part of increasing the overall body and health of your locks. “The main thing for me would be consistency,” says Manyvanh, and she recommends “keeping up with haircuts and any regimen you start.” And, one last tip from Manyvanh: “Our hair is a reflection of what we also put into our body, so making conscious decisions will better impact the journey to healthy hair!”
