Your December 2024 Horoscope Is Both Chaotic and Comforting

It’s the final month of 2024, and the astrology is precisely what you’d expect this time of year: equal parts chaotic and comforting.

Mercury meets up with the sun, infusing the communication planet with power and vitality, and making everything that felt confusing ultra-clear in the Sagittarius part of our charts—at least for a fleeting moment.

On December 6, Mars stations retrograde, joining the reverse motion party in the sign of Leo. Think of Mars as an action star, a planet that must always be in fast-forward motion, pushing toward a goal. Or, imagine being at the peak of a binge-worthy drama—when the planet of passion stations retrograde, it’s like the Wi-Fi suddenly cuts out and we’re stuck on pause, unable to see the next crucial scene. Basically, anticipate uncomfortable delays.

Because Mars will remain in retrograde motion through February 23, 2025 (returning to the sign of Cancer on January 6), we’re in for a long haul in the part of our chart ruled by these two signs. This confusing narrative doesn’t wrap up until the spring, when Mars returns to Leo in April and remains there until June. Much of this story is yet to be written!

The full moon in Gemini arrives on December 15—the same day that Mercury (the planetary ruler of Gemini) finally stations direct, allowing us a bit of a clean-up in both our Sagittarius and Gemini houses. Just before we bid farewell to 2024, a practical, serious, and somewhat subdued new moon in Capricorn grants us the opportunity to set goals and consider our New Year’s resolutions on December 30.
