“Pajama lounges” are now a thing—and they’re as good as they sound

It’s almost 2018 and there are few things that are still as true this year as they were last year: no one will ever tire of avocados, Beyoncé is an universally adored icon, and everything old is new again (see: Lisa Frank and everything else from the ’90s). The latest thing to make its way back from mildly forgotten to current cultural zeitgeist is that random and unnamed second floor landing by the stairs (if you’re lucky enough to have a two-story abode). Why? Two words: pajama lounge.

According to Apartment Therapy, that’s what interior design pros have dubbed the previously unnamed area. Although the name might seem somewhat abstract and ephemeral—it’s basically a hobby room specifically made with hygge in mind (just imagine, taking your morning tea in your best comfy-chic bralette, wrapped up in a luxe robe).

Whether or not you have a specifically designated “pajama lounge,” or even a second floor, you can turn pretty much any hygge-ready space into your own version of the cozy spot.

In essence, according to Ralph Choeff a founding principal of Choeff Levy Fischman Architecture and Design, “It is an intimate space where everyone can gather and talk, watch TV, have a snack or a drink, or just read a book with the entire ensemble being together.”

Whether or not you have a specifically designated “pajama lounge,” or even a second floor, you can turn pretty much any hygge-ready space into your own version of the cozy spot. All you need is whatever your ideal hang spot has—like maybe a face mask bar, a tea tray for your matcha, and some plush throw blankets. Just add PJs.

As for what to actually wear in said pajama lounge? Maybe some silk sleepwear or some chic and effortless loungewear.
