This Song Is so Relaxing, Scientists Recommend NOT Listening While Behind the Wheel
Marconi Union's "Weightless" was been dubbed the "most relaxing song on Earth" in light of a study—led by David Lewis-Hodgson, PhD, of Mindlab International—in which participants tried to solve stressful puzzles while music played in the background. The eight-minute song was found to be 11 percent more relaxing than any other track (and there were picks by Adele and Coldplay also in the mix). Furthermore, "Weightless" also helped decrease participants' stress and anxiety levels by a whopping 65 percent, reported Inc.
"Weightless" was 11 percent more relaxing than any other song and helped decrease participants' stress and anxiety levels by a whopping 65 percent, according to the study.
This isn't a huge coincidence though, as the song's chill-out effect got a little help from science. The UK-based trio Marconi Union created the track with the help of neurologists and sound therapists, and the result was specifically arranged so the “harmonies, rhythms, and bass lines help slow a listener’s heart rate, reduce blood pressure, and lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol," reports Inc. Seems like it worked as perfectly as magnesium does for boosting your brain function.
When you're ready to relax, listen to "Weightless" below. And if you fall asleep at your desk because you de-stressed to the max, don't say you weren't warned.
