It’s the most wonderful time of the year—the time when Pantone announces its selection for the Color of the Year, of course! From the 2016’s iconic Millennial Pink, to last year’s canary-and-grey combo, Pantone’s predictions never disappoint, and 2022 is no different.
ICYMI, Pantone just unveiled its color of choice for next year, and it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. That’s because ‘Veri Peri’ is a totally new color Pantone invented from scratch—the first time the color company has ever manufactured a whole new color rather than picking one from its pre-fixed palette. According to CNN, the periwinkle shade is a “the happiest and the warmest of all the blue hues,” balanced with some red undertones for a subtle, light purple.
“It was really important for us to come up with a new color, because we have a very new vision of the world now,” said Pantone Color Institute’s Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman to CNN. “The color symbolizes the future… [it] has that sprightly, joyous attitude that we’re talking about, that carefree confidence, and creative spirit.”
