In case you missed it, the color giant has announced its Color of the Year for 2023 last week, and we’re already in love. The bold and bright successor to last year’s “Veri Peri,” a soft and carefree lilac-blue, “Viva Magenta” is a vibrant, red-derived hue that sits at the crossroads of warm and cool. The color authority described Viva Magenta as “a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundary-less shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.”

“In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “[Viva Magenta] is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.” Pantone’s Color of the Year pick evokes nature’s raw power—empowering us to tap into our inner strength for unbridled self expression.

“Viva Magenta welcomes anyone and everyone with the same verve for life and rebellious spirit,” said Pantone about its 2023 pick.
