One of the quickest routes to bringing zen into your home is finding functional uses for things that were previously labeled “woo.” Case in point: Crystals. Maybe you’ve dabbled with them at a yoga or meditation class, but are looking for a beautiful way to incorporate them into your living space. An easy first step is to look for a stone called agate, which commonly manifests itself in the form of bookends or coasters.
Agate coasters not only add interest to a room with their color and texture, they’re also a stylish, easy way to infuse your home with high vibes. Kristin Petrovich, the author of Elemental Energy: Crystal and Gemstone Rituals for a Beautiful Life and founder of the crystal-infused Sjal Skincare line explains that agate has been tapped for its purported energy-boosting qualities since back in ancient Greek and Roman times.
Nowadays, if you talk to a modern energy healer, they’ll tell you there are a slew of different kinds of agate crystals. “Green moss agate is considered the most powerful of agates,” says Petrovich, “and [has been used to] balance emotions as well as enhance concentration, success, and endurance.”
Another common varietal is blue lace agate (a personal favorite of mine thanks to its sky-blue hue). Connected to healing the throat chakra, blue lace agate has been said to bolster communication and expression, says Petrovich. “It’s both a grounding and spiritual stone, allowing one to bring their spiritual experiences into their everyday reality.”
