New York City is full of innovators. Including its yoga teachers. Meet Carlos Rodriguez, the creator of Caponyasa, a new style of yoga.
Caponyasa combines the tough, fast, and fiery elements of Capoeira, a form of Brazilian martial arts, with a vigorous vinyasa practice. The Caponyasa concept is an organic fusion of various practices that Rodriguez has personally studied. And you won’t believe the practice: The explosive class makes use of all four sides of your yoga mat and it’s typically done in a hot room.
To get a glimpse of the challenging new yoga practice, you’ll want to check out this Caponyasa video. (It’s shot in HD!) Well+Good’s Melisse Gelula takes her first Caponyasa class with Rodriguez to learn more. And sweat a lot.
Caponyasa classes with Carlos Rodriguez are held at Pure Yoga East and West www.pureyoga.com, Prana Power Yoga www.pranapoweryoga.com, and The Yoga Room in Queens www.the-yoga-room.com.
