As a major no-makeup-makeup fan, I only use full-coverage foundation when I’m going for full-on-glam. On those days, I turn to the Cover FX Natural Finish Foundation ($42). It’s been my go-to for over five years because it provides amazing coverage without feeling heavy or looking cakey.

The Cover FX Natural Finish Foundation is water-based, oil-free, and delivers 12-hours of wear. The coverage hides my dark spots and provides an even canvas without being too heavy—it’s buildable, so you can get just as much coverage as you’d like. The creamy formula is enriched with emollients to keep your skin looking moisturized, and leaves skin looking dewy and natural (which is totally unlike most full-coverage foundations, which leave behind matte finishes). It also includes vitamins C, E, and F to moisturize your complexion and help protect against environmental stressors. With all of these elements, it’s no wonder my dry skin loves the stuff.
The best part about this foundation is that it comes in 40 shades with varying undertones (cool, neutral, and warm), so you can find the best shade for your complexion. But even with so many options, celebrity makeup artist Katey Denno says that if you have more than one undertone, mixing shades might be your best bet.
“Skin on the face is different from the skin on your neck and your body, and some people have different undertones in different areas of the face,” says Denno. “If you’re both cool and very olive [in undertone], you may find that mixing colors from two different bottles in your hand gets you that perfect match.” My shade is N90 and it’s a perfect match—no mixing required.

I’m not alone in my love for this product. Of nearly 400 reviewers on the Cover FX site, over 75 percent gave the foundation five stars. Buyer Teresa S. says “[I] have been using this product for many years and although I’ve tried others, I keep coming back to my Cover FX. Claudine C. adds that “it’s not oily and doesn’t cause breakouts, even if your skin is prone to acne.”
