As a “plus-size” woman, it hasn’t, historically, been easy or fun for me to shop. Although statistics continually point out that the average American female is somewhere around a size 16, many brands have failed to stock clothes that fit our frames—or they create one-off collections in this category, which again just misses the mark.
What women want are extended sizes with smart tapering and tailoring, a reality that an increasing number of brands are coming to terms with: J. Crew recently announced it was adopting a more inclusive fashion model, and now its sister brand Madewell is as well. This week, the mainstream fashion brand beloved by millennials announced that it too will be offering more everywoman sizing options starting with its just-released fall collection.
Clothing now ranges from xx-small to 3x-large in tops and from 00 to 24 in bottoms—plus, sizes 23 to 39 in denim and pants. Your offerings are typical Madewell—minimalist, clean, and comfortable. And even though fall is still months away (phew!), below are a handful of pieces worth buying (and wearing) now…before they sell out.
