If you’re not sure exactly what to buy, Sophya Morghem, DMD, MS, a dentist at Sunset Dentistry in San Francisco, suggests a high-tech electric toothbrush. “I recommend an electric toothbrush to 99 percent of my patients,” says Dr. Morghem. “You want to make sure it comes with a pressure sensor, so it tells you when you’re brushing too hard, and a replaceable head.” She’s a big fan of Sonicare products, like the DiamondClean ($229) or the ProtectiveClean ($69), which is $20-off.
As for other dental accessories, don’t skimp on the floss. “People seem to think that flossing is just to get the food out, when it’s actually to get the sides of the teeth you’re not cleaning with a toothbrush,” says Dr. Morghem. “My favorite is Cocofloss which gets thicker as moisture is added to it so it kind of acts like a loofah.”
As for things to avoid? Teeth whitening kits are a no-no, on and off Prime Day: “It’s best to go see your dentist,” Dr. Morghem explains. At-home products, like gels and whitening strips, can hurt the enamel and burn your gums if they’re not placed on your teeth properly. “There’s nothing better than custom trays.”
