Made with a minimal drop and the brand’s signature Floatride Energy Foam—an ultra-comfortable foam midsole that’s known for being soft, yet responsive—the training shoes are a great option for outdoor (and indoor!) Heel-to-toe drop

As far as lifting goes, a minimal heel-to-toe drop is desired since a flatter shoe makes for better grip during heavyweight exercises like squats and deadlifts. Generally speaking, shoes above 8mm are best for running, while shoes below 7mm are great for cross training and weightlifting. (Some shoes even have zero lift, but many podiatrists advise against such, as some cushioning is necessary to maintain overall foot and body health.) With an offset of just 7mm, the Reebok Nano X2 Adventure is padded, but not too little and not too much, making it best for cross-training (particularly outside, which we’ll get to in a sec).

Insole

Inside the Reebok Nano X2 Adventure Training Shoes, you’ll find very lightly padded insoles that are removable. Since you can remove them, you can rinse and/or hand wash them, which can help keep your shoes looking and smelling brand new, which is always a plus.

Midsole

The Reebok Nano X2 Adventure Training Shoes are made with the brand’s signature Floatride Energy Foam, which is typically found in the brand’s running shoes. In that way, it’s an interesting inclusion in a training shoe but it just goes to show why these sneaks are best for cross-training exercises like box jumping, lateral jumps, jump squats, and other exercises requiring responsive cushioning and maximum grounding. Beyond its performance, the Floatride Energy Foam makes for some seriously comfortable training shoes. With each step, my feet feel supported and stable, and cozy as can be.

Outsole

The outsole of the Reebok Nano X2 Adventure Training Shoes is one of the key details that sets these shoes apart from other cross-training shoes. Unlike sneakers with smooth indoor-only soles, these shoes feature highly durable lug soles with grooves so deep that you’ll feel stable on any terrain—grass, sand, concrete, dirt trails, you name it.

Reebok Nano X2 sizing

Based on my own experience, the Reebok Nano X2 Adventure Training Shoes fit true to size. The toe box is roomy, but not too big. While the heel clip makes my feet feel mostly secure, it’s worth noting that the lacing system needs to be fully utilized for the most secure fit. When these shoes arrive, they come with laces strung through six of the seven holes on each side. While this is most comfortable, opting for all seven holes to be laced cements these sneakers to your feet. Otherwise, they’re very easy to slip off—not that they flung off mid-workout for me or anything, but given how easy they are to take off with only six holes strung makes me think that that could potentially be a possibility. So, for super high-intensity movements, you may want to lace all the way up.

Who they’re best for

The Reebok Nano X2 Adventure Training Shoes are great for anyone looking for a versatile training shoe that can be worn indoors and outdoors, during high-intensity workouts and more laidback trail excursions. Although they’re specifically designed for outdoor wear, I wore them inside in my unfinished basement home gym and the highly-textured soles made for a stable, slip-proof sweat sesh.

That said, if pretty colorways (or even neutral ones) are an essential component of your decision making process, these may not be the best fit for you, purely style-wise.

Still, if your goal has been to find a great, sturdy shoe that lets you move freely and safely across all surfaces—wet and dry—these are a top pick.
