Redditors can’t get enough of these 5 beauty brands, and neither can dermatologists

Whenever I’ve got a beauty question, Reddit’s SkincareAddiction thread is the first place I turn. That’s because chances are, someone on there has had the same question, and dozens (sometimes hundreds) of people have given his or her two cents on what the answer is. The thread is the number one most popular beauty community on the platform—for good reason—and I as a beauty editor trust their intel a whole lot.

Suffice to say, when the Reddit community recommends a product, you best believe it’s worth listening to… their crowd-sourced 4-1-1 on all things skin related is legit, to say the least. Need proof? Reddit just released its 2019 trends, and the five most talk-about beauty brands are among our own—and our dermatologists’—all-time favorites. In fact, we’ve spent this year talking about many of the same products as our favorite Reddit community has, which goes to show how on the nose they are.

The best part of the top brands? The majority of them are available at the drugstore. Below, the five top beauty brands of 2019 that Redditors couldn’t get enough of, and our picks for the best products to buy from each.

Top beauty brands of 2019:

1. Cerave

Cerave Daily Moisturizing Cream, $19

Drugstore go-to Cerave cinched the top spot for Reddit’s most talked-about beauty brand of 2019, and for good reason. According to derms, Cerave Moisturizing Cream (which clocks in at an ultra-affordable $19 for a giant tub of the stuff) is the “best of the best” for dry skin. It’s made with ceramides and hyaluronic acid, and is ultra-hydrating but lightweight enough that it won’t be a problem for pores. In addition to the cure-all moisturizer, derms also love Cerave Hydrating Cleanser ($13) because it’s “reliable, moisturizing, and elegant for all skin types.”

2. Neutrogena

Neutrogena Bright Boost Illuminating Serum, $20

Neutrogena’s line of Hydroboost products has been a forever favorite thanks to their hyaluronic acid-packed formulas and jelly-texture, and the moisturizer even made our list of “top 10 drugstore products of all time.” This year, though, the brand launched its Bright Boost line, complete with a gently exfoliating cleanser, a moisturizer, a sunscreen, and a triple-threat serum that hydrates, brightens, and stimulates cell turnover.

3. Clinique

Clinique iD, $39

This time last year, when we asked Well+Good editors what skin-care brand they’d commit to for the rest of their lives, Clinique was a big mood. The  Moisture Surge Moisturizer ($39) is ultra-hydrating and great for sensitive skin,  and derms are fans of the ultra-potent brightener Fresh Pressed Daily Booster With Pure 100% Vitamin C ($20). And if you can’t decide which product to buy, Clinique iD ($39) will personalize your serum and do all of the legwork for you.

4. Glossier

Glossier Priming Moisturize Rich, $35

Each time a Glossier product has come across our desks this year—from the exfoliating Solution ($24) to the glow-inducing Futuredew ($24)—we couldn’t wait to slather ’em all over our faces. There’s something about the pink packaging, science-backed formulations, and affordable price points that simply make you want to use (and then tell everyone about) the brand’s products. Derms love the Priming Moisturize Rich Moisturizer ($35) because it’s “rich in ceramides and fatty acids and it reinforces the skin barrier while locking in moisture over time,” says Sheel Desai Solomon, MD, of Preston Dermatology. When it comes to Glossier, it’s hard to choose one product to invest in (if I personally had to pick, I’d go with Birthday Balm Dotcom ($12) or Glossier You ($60))—they’re all that good.

5. Cetaphil

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser, $9

One of the most derm-recommended products on the market, Cetaphil’s cleanser is #basic in a good way. It’s made with a trusty surfactant, which cleanses; a humectant, which helps skin retain moisture; preservatives to keep it from going bad, and… that’s it. This simple combo makes it gentle enough to be used on all skin types, and is great for combining with potentially irritating ingredients like retinoids and harsh acids to help keep things calm.
