A not-so-hot take: The accent chair is the unsung hero of the home. She’s cozy! She’s practical! She can be subtle! She can be bold! And she can nuzzle her way into living spaces of every size (looking at you, studio apartments). The issue: All your favorite home brands have caught onto her indispensability, and they’ve given her a hefty price tag.
IMO, accent chairs are totally worth investing in—but that doesn’t mean you have to spend your entire budget to get a high-quality, high-comfort piece. The name of the game is in finding dupes of all the trends you see in storefronts, online, and in your chicest follows’ social feeds. I’ve been on the hunt for one that’s functional (read: an extra seat that works for everything from a swanky happy hour to a lights-down, popcorn-flowing movie night) *and* feels like decor, and I’m happy to report a recent (and major) win.
It comes in the form of a linen-upholstered Pottery Barn lookalike that you can score from Walmart for—wait for it—92 percent less. Keep reading to find out how the two compare and why I'm skipping the splurge (this time, at least) in favor of this wallet-friendly, comfy-cool Walmart accent chair.

UBesGoo Linen-Upholstered Reading Accent Chair with Solid Wood Frame — $115
Originally $200, on sale for $85 off
Made with a solid wood frame and linen-upholstered high-density foam cushions, the UBesGoo Accent Chair from Walmart is just the right mix of classic, contemporary, and country-house vibes—without feeling overly rustic. It’s wide and deep enough for curling up but compact enough to make even the tiniest space feel lounge-worthy.
Okay, but how does it really stack up to its Pottery Barn counterpart? The Pottery Barn Cody Chair is a bestseller for a reason—the classic farmhouse design comes together with kiln-dried solid and oak wood, which helps prevent warping and cracking, and firm cushions in what feels like an infinite amount of upholstery options. But it’s also a big financial investment, ranging from $850 to $1,400 depending on the fabric you choose. That’s up to $1,200 more than the UBesGoo at Walmart (think of the things you could do with those savings!).
Between the two accent chairs, the design elements and dimensions are very similar, with a few minor differences. Pottery Barn’s build includes a slotted-wood back, while Walmart’s is upholstered. And then there are the cushions—opt for Pottery Barn, and you can choose from 51 different fabrics, from camel-colored faux fur to cotton gingham. Your options at Walmart are a bit more limited, but you’re bound to find something you love in the 11 colors they offer. Want this accent chair to blend seamlessly into an understated aesthetic? There are seven neutral shades—from beige to dark gray—to choose from. Want more of, well, an accent? Spring for something bolder, like red or teal.
For me, the Pottery Barn similarities make this Walmart accent chair too good to pass up (not to mention the hundreds of five-star reviews). So I’m officially naming it the dupe of all dupes—and officially claiming it as a no-brainer for my snug apartment, and for anyone who loves a serious bargain, a classic aesthetic, a cozy spot for reading and relaxing, or a combination of the three. So, um, everyone?
