Behold: The First SPF Lipstick I’ve Ever Loved (and It Comes in 5 Gorgeous, Summer-y Shades)
Look, I know how important it is to wear sunscreen each and every day of the year, regardless of how hot or sunny it is outside. Despite being pretty well-versed on the risks of venturing outside without sun protection on, though, I have long despised SPF-infused lipcare products. This, of course, is not ideal, considering the lips can develop cancer just like any other area of skin. The problem is, I’ve always found SPF-infused lip balms and lipsticks to have less than stellar texture and pigmentation, not to mention the absolute worst taste ever—until now. Thankfully, Supergoop! is single-handedly changing the lip sunscreen narrative.
Enter: the Supergoop! Lipshade 100% Mineral SPF 30 Hydrating Lipstick ($24). These precious yellow-tubed lippies are everything I want in a UV-protective lip product, and more. They glide on smoothly, impart impressive, non-drying color, and don’t have a horrid aftertaste. What they do have? A nostalgic, slightly minty, very refreshing scent that brings images of my grandma’s 1990s Clinique lip tubes to mind, in the very best way. Oh, and they have adorable names to boot. (It’s as if the "Hey Y’all" and "Obsessed" shades were made for me—even the colors are my go-to shades.)
Logistically, the Suergoop! Lipshade 100% Mineral SPF 30 Hydrating Lipstick is sold in five shades—ranging from red and orange to mauve and berry—all of which are formulated with peppermint flavor for scent and taste, as well as natural peptides, shea and mango butter, and rosehip oil to hydrate and soften lips. And, of course, they’re brimming with mineral SPF 30 in the form of Zinc Oxide.
As with traditional face and body sunscreens, the Supergoop! Lipshade 100% Mineral SPF 30 Hydrating Lipstick is meant to be reapplied. As such, layer it on before heading out into the sun and then every two hours, or after taking a dip (or sip). FWIW: Even when reapplied, I found that this conditioning lipstick looks lovely, without pills or dried edges. Suffice to say, it’s the best SPF lipcare I’ve ever come across.
