On the Cusp: What Being Born Between Taurus and Gemini Seasons Means for Your Personality

I felt mega betrayed by the universe when it recently deflated the sheer and unfettered joy I felt upon my mom mentioning to me that Cher is a Taurus. See, I'm a Taurus, and I'm currently looking into any and all connections I share with the Goddess of Pop. Yet a quick Google search to confirm that our status as zodiac soul sisters revealed to me that her birthday is May 20th, so though she's indeed a Taurus (which rules Aril 20 through May 21), she's born on the Taurus Gemini cusp, the period spanning the end of Taurus and beginning of Gemini season. Yes, it's a personal bummer for me to have this cosmic division from my kween, but maybe her specific astrological profile is responsible for some of her awesomeness to which I'm simply not privy.

But before we dive right in, a quick note about being born on the cusp of two signs: You are always, ultimately, one sign or another. When you're a cusp baby, you simply tend to embody other qualities from the neighboring sign. So Cher is still a Taurus (phew), but she probably has a smattering of Gemini traits that make her all dazzling and stuff.

Here's a breakdown of both signs and the unique cusp profile to clear things up:

Quick recap, here are the traits of a Taurus:

Earthy. That's it.

Just kidding. Still, people love to harp on how bulls are super-practical and grounded due to their Earth-sign nature. But they also love sensual, materialistic pleasures that cater to the #self-care life. Nothing really screams "practical" about spending $60 on a rose-quartz facial roller, amirite? (Okay, I admit, I had a Sephora gift card, but still.)

Bulls are also ride-or-die friends who will point their horns at anyone who tries to eff with their squad. Oh, and many stubbornly cling to the notion that Taureans are stubborn (eye roll @ everyone) but I really lean toward "determined." They fight hard for what they believe, and that perseverance lends itself to personal strength. I mentioned that Cher is a Taurus, right?

And once again, these are the traits of a Gemini:

Unlike the super fixed-in-their-ways Taureans (like, literally, Taurus is a fixed sign) Gemini is pretty malleable, flexible to the time or situation. They're also extroverted, outgoing and can be the life of the party. Interestingly enough, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are Gemini twins despite being America's favorite funeral-chic Starbucks-clutching recluses. Then again, there were all those post-NYU wild years....

But I digress. Because of their dual nature, Gemini folk can be a bit flighty, impulsive, indecisive, and two-faced. So while Geminis do sometimes get a bad rap on the zodiac wheel, their intelligent, curious, and fun-loving nature can certainly make them captivating creatures. (Also, I probably love MK & A as much as I love Cher, if that counts of anything.)

So, drumroll, here's what it means if you're born on the Taurus Gemini cusp:

"People born on the Taurus Gemini cusp are slow-moving but quick-witted," says astrologer Stefanie Iris Weiss. "They often feel like they’re still languidly stretching while their first cup of coffee of the day begins waking up their brains. There’s a combination of deep sensuality and intelligence; a relationship between the mind and the body that few signs blend as seamlessly."

Meanwhile, the positive and negative traits of each sign tend to balance out the other. Taurus Gemini cuspers tread a little more thoughtfully than Geminis without the Taurean influence. "They might be a bit more careful than a full-blooded Gemini when it comes to dropping gossip or speaking too soon, as they know how to take a deep breath before blurting," Weiss says. "At the same time, they are more likely to get stuck in a mental rut due to the Taurus influence. It’s all about finding that middle ground between honoring their inherent genius—Gemini influence—and their deep knowledge of the language of the body—the Taurus influence."

My advice: look to Cher.
