I love my naturally curly hair, but it’s taken me a long time to learn how to manage it and care for it so that it’s hydrated, moisturized, and healthy. As you can imagine, there’s been a lot of trial and error over the years (and a lot of money spent), but I’ve finally found hair products for naturally curly hair that actually work. Here are a few of my go-tos for every style from a wash-and-go to a sleek pony with a bun.

1. Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Cooling Hydration Mask
About six months ago, I started to notice that my scalp was getting extremely itchy, dry, and flaky, and so I began searching for products to reduce and prevent this. Briogeo recently launched the Scalp Revival collection, and this hydration mask has been one of my favorites ever since. I typically use it once every two weeks, and it’s helped me maintain a healthy scalp, which is the foundation for healthy hair.
2. Scalp Revival Charcoal and Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Scalp Scrub Shampoo
I use the Briogeo Scalp Revival Shampoo in conjunction with the scalp mask to get rid of any product buildup on my scalp and to help hydrate it and reduce the dry, itchy, flakiness I experience.
3. Bread Beauty Supply Hair Wash Gentle Milky Hair Cleanser
I alternate between using a clarifying shampoo and one that is more gentle every other week. This Gentle Milky Hair Cleanser from Bread Beauty Supply has quickly become one of my favorites. It smells delicious, hydrates my hair, and also addresses my scalp concerns.
4. Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
Conditioner is arguably the most important step in my hair routine, and I’m currently loving the Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner. One of my friends (who is also a curly girl) put me on to it last year, and I was hesitant to try it out initially because of the price and how quickly I go through conditioner, so I bought the travel size, but I now love it (and depend on it) enough to go full size. Luckily, a little goes a long way—it’s extremely moisturizing, and it makes me feel good knowing it’s repairing and protecting the bonds of my hair.
5. Olaplex No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask
Since I love the Olaplex conditioner, I decided to try out the Olaplex No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask, and it is wonderful. It’s not too thick or too light, and it’s been a go-to in order to protect and repair my hair from damage like being in the sun for extended periods of time.
6. Briogeo Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Avocado Leave-In Defining Creme
I have tried countless stylers and never seem to be satisfied with the results. I purchased the Curl Charisma Leave-In Defining Creme for the first time last December, and it’s been one of my shelf staples ever since. It’s lightweight yet moisturizing, and when it comes to my wash-and-gos this is the only product I have to use. It doesn’t feel sticky when applying it, and I love how it makes my hair look once it’s dry. It looks moisturized but not greasy, it helps reduce frizz, and my curls are loose and full. It works so well, my hair looks like I just did it days later.
7. Bread Beauty Supply Elastic Bounce Leave-In Conditioning Styler Hair Cream
This is the newest product in my curly hair collection, and it’s amazing. This leave-in works great on my hair for everything from a wash-and-go to a slick pony, but I really love it for my braid-outs. It’s lightweight to the touch, and the first time I used it I applied way too much product and didn’t like the end result. I tried it again a few days later, with a lot less product, and my braid-out turned out amazing.
8. Design Essentials Almond and Avocado Curl Enhancing Mousse
Mousse often gets a bad rep for leaving your curls looking and feeling crunchy, but this one does the exact opposite. If it’s a hot, humid day or my hair is just acting up, I’ll finish off whatever look with a few pumps of this mousse. It adds shine to my hair, helps maintain the curl pattern, and reduces frizz, sans the crunch.
9. Design Essentials Firmer Hold Edge Tamer
One of my go-to hairstyles is slicked back braided bun, and it’s imperative that my hair is s-l-i-c-k. I’ve perfected the style, and this edge control is that girl. You don’t need a lot but it keeps what would be flyaways down for days.
