Banana bread (finally) got its shining moment this year. While it’s hard to beat a fresh-out-of-the-oven slice of homemade banana bread, drinking it in the form of a four-ingredient smoothie is the next best thing.
Lisa Wells, the food blogger behind Cook Eat Well, created a banana bread smoothie recipe that has some pretty major perks. Yes, this smoothie tastes like a slice of banana bread bread version, but it’s dairy-free, added sugar-free, and vegan, too. The recipe also only requires a handful of ingredients, all of which play an important role in giving you the beloved banana bread flavor in every sip: cashew milk, almond butter, frozen bananas, and nutmeg.
“This paleo banana bread smoothie has all the flavors of my favorite banana bread,” says Wells. “I always keep bananas in the freezer for making smoothies; they add a milkshake-like texture. Then the almond butter adds a little nuttiness, and the nutmeg brings out the banana flavor. It’s perfect for a quick breakfast or a last-minute snack.”
After you get together all your ingredients, you simply add them into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. What you’re left with is a quick and easy smoothie that’s delicious, loaded with filling plant-based protein from the cashew milk and almond butter, and naturally sweet due to using bananas instead of sugar. Dessert for breakfast has never been better.
