The simplicity is what makes food blogger Elaine Kalache’s formula so, well, sexy. Many of us are way overthinking things at lunch hour (or whenever you like to eat your lettuce), she says. The truth of the matter is that salads are basic: they only really require four components to be satiating, nutritious, and—some may say—fork lickin’ good.
If you’re out of salad ideas, follow this easy salad formula:
- 1.Pick your base of leafy greens. Kale! Spinach! Arugula! Iceberg!
- 2.Choose two or three compatible vegetables. Try sweet potato and Brussels sprouts, tomatoes and cucumber, peppers and red onions, or avocado and literally anything.
- 3.Add a protein. This could be grilled chicken or tuna. If you’re a plant-based eater, try tofu or chickpeas.
- 4.Add a dressing. Maybe a healthy ranch or an inventive store-bought variety.
There you have it. You’ve officially mastered a salad that’s at once easy and filling. Here’s to many more veggieful meals in the future.
Have you heard of the legendary “fat salad” or GrubHub’s salad of the summer?
