If you were able to look up the phrase "booked and busy," in the dictionary, you'd likely find a (stunning) picture of model and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss smiling back at you. Between running Kode With Klossy—a nonprofit offering free coding classes for teen girls—and the Gateway Coalition—a collective that helps doctors in the Midwest provide health care for women—it's safe to say the 40-time Vogue covergirl is *always* on-the-go. Oh and did we mention she's also a mom of two?! Surely, the ultimate Karlie Kloss morning routine is the secret behind her boundless energy.

To find out, Well+Good caught up with Kloss in an exclusive interview, where we picked her brain about how she maintains her energy while wearing so many different hats. She tells us her goal is to be the best version of herself and feel good from the inside out, which is why she's teamed up with vitamin and supplement company Thorne for its Find Your Way campaign—a movement that's all about optimizing health and wellness at every life stage.

Read on to learn more about Kloss' morning routine filled with sleep, breakfast, supplements, and other non-negotiables you can try, too.

Actually, it all starts with her nighttime routine

We know what you're thinking: This is supposed to be about Karlie Kloss' morning routine! But it turns out, the key to an energized morning and day starts with how we prep the night before. For Kloss, her nighttime routine is just as important as a morning one, especially because her daylight hours are packed to the brim.

"I’ve always been a big advocate for sleep as an important wellness habit because it’s vital for your brain to function at its best," Kloss says. "Sleep is one of the most important parts of my routine, so I make sure that I can get my rest, no matter what."

The best way to feel well-rested, she says, is going to bed as early as possible. Living in NYC—AKA, the city that never sleeps—Kloss makes it a priority to set her phone on "do not disturb" and avoid checking emails, doomscrolling on social media, or watching the news before bed. To help her hit the hay after a bustling day, Kloss turns to a magnesium supplement to help relax her muscles and promote quality sleep. Lately, she's been loving Thorne's magnesium bisglycinate.

Kloss' 3-step morning routine

How you start your morning can often set the tone for your energy levels throughout the day. “I try to start my morning on the right foot because I never know what’s going to happen over the course of the day," Kloss tells us. Here's what her typical energizing morning looks like:

1. She squeezes in a workout or meditation before the kids wake up

Life has always been busy for Kloss, but it's gotten even busier since she had sons Levi (born in March 2021) and Elijah (born in July 2023). That's why she takes advantage of the hours before her little ones wake up to make time for movement and self-care. "If I can squeeze in a quick workout in the morning before my day starts, or if I can steal away just five minutes for a meditation and just feel centered in my body, that is something I try to prioritize," she tells us. (Both meditation and movement should feature in a longevity-boosting morning routine, BTW.)

Kloss loves hitting up a Pilates class or working out with her trainer Madison Rose, founder of The Studio. When she's traveling in different time zones, she leans on Rose's on-demand classes, which are easily accessible in different time zones and less-than-roomy hotel rooms.

2. She preps a high-protein breakfast

Kloss tells us she's trying to eat more protein these days (aren't we all?). Because she doesn't eat meat, protein smoothies have been a welcome way to hit her macro goals, especially while she's traveling. If she has access to a blender, she loves fixing up a protein smoothie with Thorne's protein powder, which she mixes with "whatever she feels inspired by," Kloss says.

Along with a scoop of high-quality protein powder, we recommend adding a source of fiber (like fruit), a handful of leafy greens (for micronutrients), and some healthy fats (like peanut or almond butter) for a balanced morning shake that will keep you full and energized all morning long.

3. She takes her supplements

Kloss is all about streamlining and making the parts of her life she can control more efficient, and that's where supplements come in. On Sunday, before her workweek begins, she sets up her little pill box with all the supplements she takes, so she doesn't have to think about it during the week. This can save time (and energy) for other morning tasks like caring for kids or getting ready for the day.

Here's a peek at what's in her pillbox:

  • A B-complex for energy
  • Vitamin C for antioxidant and immune support
  • Thorne's Memoractiv supplements for brain function, and for when she's feeling extra depleted (the main ingredient is ashwagandha, to promote relaxation and anxiety-relief)
  • Thorne's PharmaGABA (or any other GABA supplement that's third-party tested) for stress support

TIP

Supplements aren't right for everyone. Talk to your doctor before taking a new supplement to make sure it's safe for you based on your health status and any other medications you take.

Her biggest tip? Prioritize your personal wellness

"My biggest tip is to make sure you're prioritizing and making time for your own personal health and wellness," Kloss says.

To her, that means prioritizing good sleep, making time for self-care, and enlisting a little help from supplements to keep her energy levels up so she can tackle being a mom, entrepreneur, and generally busy boss lady.
