Everything You Need To Create a Beautiful Outdoor Meditation Space—Even if You Don’t Have Much Room
Having a dedicated meditation space is similar. Let's be honest: cultivating a meditation practice isn't always easy. But when you have a space that enhances your practice, you're more likely to look forward to it and make it a habit. If you have the luxury of having a backyard or small balcony, now could be the perfect time to create such a space outside.
Certified meditation and mindfulness teacher Laurasia Mattingly says meditating outside can create a whole added layer to your meditation practice. "Going outside is a beautiful way to connect to your meditation practice. It allows you to wake up to your senses and the beauty of the world," she says.
Mattingly explains that, often, we live our lives on autopilot, but spending time meditating in nature can change that. "I often have my students go outside and really listen, and they’ll tell me they never noticed the sound of the birds before," she says. "I tell my students to take a moment and savor the sun warming their face. Nature can be our reminder to be present, to live life fully awake. It’s why a lot of silent retreats take place in beautiful places of nature."
