The latest Google Maps feature: Telling you how long the line is at the grocery store

It’s Wednesday night and you’re in the mood for cauliflower pizza—only you need to pick up the crust at the grocery store. I‘ll just run to Trader Joe’s and get it. It will be quick, you think. But as soon as you walk through the door and see the line snaking its way past the pastries, and produce, all the way to the frozen food section, you realize that it won’t actually be quick at all and you wish you’d just picked another store to run into.

Google Maps is hoping to prevent that from happening with its latest feature: telling you how long the line is at the grocery store, RetailWire reports. Rolling out right before Thanksgiving (though the tech giant hasn’t committed to an exact ETA ), the app will not only tell the best way to get from point A to point B, but also how long you’ll likely be waiting—using info that’s crowd-sourced.

Google is already using the new technology to relay wait times for popular restaurants. The grocery shopping feature is just a step beyond. If you live near several food store options, it will help you figure out which one will be the fastest so you can get down to doing what you really want to be do: eat.
